SVGTA holds Commonwealth Youth Games Tennis Playoffs

The SVG Tennis Association held a boys 18 and under tennis playoffs from August 28 to 30, 2008, to select a team for the Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in Pune, India, during October 2008. Selected players will be part of a national team facilitated through the SVG National Olympic Committee.{{more}}

The top eight seeded players, Shane Huggins, Dwayne Thomas, Alain Bailey, Dujoh Ollieverre, Damani Taylor, Khir Huggins, Fabrice George and Shane Latchman participated in the playoffs. The selection was done by way of best of three sets in a round robin format, with the top two players being selected to participate and the third as an alternate. Each participant played two keenly contested matches per day. The top two picks were: 1. Shane Huggins and 2. Dwayne Thomas, with Shane Latchman as alternate. The playoffs were held at the National Lottery Sporting Facility, Richmond Hill, with the tournament directors being Samantha Goodluck and Onike Spann. The SVG Tennis Association congratulates all players who took part in the competition and wishes the SVG National Olympic Committee success in its participation at the Commonwealth Youth Games.
