Things ‘Browne’ for Atticus
Left handed teenaged batsman Atticus Browne is probably counting himself unlucky not to be making his debut for the senior St. Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket team to the Windwards Tournament in Dominica starting Sunday.{{more}}
Browne, who was last year highly recommended by the legendary Sir Garfield Sobers at a Digicel camp held here, did not find favour with the five-member selection panel. Instead, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Under-19 player has been relegated to the reserves.
Joining him in the reserves are Dyke Cato of ECGC Radcliffe, Mc Leon Williams of Police Two and Eat Rite Saintsâ Sunil Ambris.
The 13-member team shows one new comer, Teran Harper, an opening batsman who represents RBTT Premier Division champion MVC Rivals.
Also yet to wear a senior cap, Keiron Cottoy, gains another call up, after sitting out last yearâs tournament. Cottoy, a leg spinner, was among the reserves. Cottoy, who plays for Victor One in the domestic competitions, now makes the final cut. The Windwards Under-19 captain was the top wicket taker in the TCL West Indies Tournament held last July, in Barbados. He captured 38 wickets.
ECGC Radcliffeâs wicket keeper batsman Linden James takes over as Captain.
The rest of the team reads: Miles Bascombe, Alston Bobb, Lauron Francois, Donwell Hector and Norlan Williams from Victors One; Orlanzo Jackson, Deighton Butler from MVC Rivals; Dellorn Johnson of Radcliffe , Kenroy Peters of Eat Rite Saints and Salvan Browne of Police Two.
James, Bascombe, Hector, Butler, and Browne represented the Windwards in this yearâs Carib Beer series, while Jackson and Peters have turned out for the four island grouping in the past.
At home last year, the Vincentians finished second in the league and last in the limited overs competition.
Hoping for a shift in fortunes, St. Vincent and the Grenadines opens its campaign against the hosts Sunday and Monday at Windsor Park, then travels to Portsmouth to face Grenada, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Next Friday and Saturday, the Vincentians meet St. Lucia at the Botanic Gardens, in their final match of the league competition.
