Davis powers up Cavaliers
Former St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Windwards fast bowler Casper Davis is mellowing with age in his batting.
Last Saturday, in the Brooklyn Cricket League, in New York, Davis slammed 123, not out, to power Cavaliers to a convincing win over St. Lucia, in the leagueâs Knock Out Competition.{{more}}
Davis was supported by Jacob Emmanuel, 58, and Lester Benn 56, as Cavaliers reached 281 for 5 from 35 overs.
Cavaliers then made minced meat of St Lucia whose reply did not even come close, as they were rattled out for a meagre 57 runs.
Another former national player, Cameron Cuffy, who has also played for the Windwards and the West Indies, snared 4 for 14 , Mark Audain, 2 for 5, Davis 1 for 14 , and his son Andre Davis continuing to prove himself, took 1 for 23.
It was a form of redemption for Cavaliers, who the previous weekend failed to advance in the league competition.
They went under to Scorpion by three wickets in their last league game. Playing with nine players, Cavaliers won the toss and elected to bat and made 171 for 8 from 34 overs. This was not enough, as Scorpion reached 172 for 7.
This loss added to a disappointing league season for Cavaliers. The weather and turning up with players short were just two of the factors that were against the team, but they are committed to make amends, at least in the latter, in the current Knock Out format.
Tomorrow, Saturday, is Knock Out second round. Cavaliers will do battle in a match fuelled with excitement as they meet arch rival, another Vincy team Imperial at Marine Park D.
On Sunday, Imperial will again be in action versus Panthers at Marine Park C. (RT)
