Lottery 20/20 Softball Cricket off to a hectic start
The race is on for the winnerâs purse in the National Lotteries Authority Softball Cricket Competition.
Sixteen teams placed in four groups are trying to get the top prize of $2,500. Second place gets $1,500 and the third place $500.{{more}}
Attackers, one of the two inaugural winners, made a winning start to the 2008 edition which began in earnest under the lights at the Victoria Park last week Friday night.
Attackers had a hard fought win over RLP Zenga.
Kenroy Martin 54, Marcus Hackshaw 25, and Trevor Bailey 23, pushed Attackers to 131. Zenga in reply made 113 for 8, falling short by 18 runs. Cassius Welcome hit 33, as Roderick John 3 for 18, and Vernardo Primus 2 for 20, bowling for Attackers.
Also striking first blood was Nice Radio Pine Hill Clinchers. Stein Joseph 58, Okeefe Andrews 33, were the main scorers in Clinchersâ 154 for 6 in their 20 overs. Newborn Joseph 3 for 19 and Leroy Rose 2 for 36, were the main wicket takers for NCB Financiers, who was shot out for 59, in 14.2 overs.
Darron Dallaway bagged 3 for 18 for Clinchers.
It was as easy as kiss hand for Street Fighters over Hillview. Hillviewâs 90 was too small a total as Street Fighters reached 92 for 5. Khelique Samuel had figures of 4 for 8, bowling for Street Fighters. Lenroy Dalzell led Street Fightersâ run chase with 27. Devon Dickson 2 for 20 for Hillview.
But there was an upset of sorts, when Keartons took care of the fancied Kingstown Hill United. Keartons in 18.4 overs put 89 runs on the tins, with Maxian Richardson 28. Desron Maloney 3 for 3, and Morrison Edwards 2 for 20. Kingstown Hill could only make 48. Winsbert Mapp took 3 for 18, bowling for Keartons.
Sea Operations Nar Fren Dem batted first and scored 125. Rayan Antoine 28, Kenford Collins 26. Haniff Warren 4 for 23, and Kimron Richards 2 for 26. Rocksdale was restricted to 66 for 8, in their 20 overs. Richardson 18 not out . Verbert King 2 for 11.
National Lotteries Authority Combined was no match for Nex Level. A paltry 42 was NLA Combinedâs total. Lenroy Lee 3 for 8, Justin Lee 3 for 12 and Raydon Bentick 2 for 12. Nex Level knocked off the runs, reaching 48 for 3, in 6.8 overs.
And, RSVG Police stripped Ruddyâs Electrical. Malcolm Alexander 3 for 8 and Dominic Stowe 2 for 14, led RSVG Policeâs bowling, as Ruddyâs Electrical folded for 62. Alexander 24 not out and Breton Smith 17 not out, as RSVG Police marched to 63 without loss.
At last Fridayâs opening, Chairman of the NLA, Murray Bullock, Marketing Manager of the NLA Anthony Dennie, Parliamentary representative for West Kingstown Rene Baptiste, and Director of Sports and Physical Education Nelson Hillocks gave brief remarks.
Johnny Walker Older Boys was adjudged the Best Dressed Team on show.(RT)
