Premier Division Cricket title hanging
The title of 2008 RBTT Premier Division Cricket champion will go down to the wire this weekend, with the last round of matches.{{more}}
And, the permutations are mounting. Defending champion, MVC Rivals, on 64 points, faces ECGC Radcliffe with 61 points, and Victors One, also on 64 points, meets Police Two.
The News Spartans pushed their way to 68 points and top of the table last weekend, with a comprehensive innings defeat of Police One, to set up an outside chance of sharing title, if the two matches are abandoned.
Spartans was put in that position after they scored 220 for 7 declared. Dawnley Joseph, 51, his son Dawnley Grant, 36, Roger Francois, 35, Kissinger Mc Lean, 34, and Micha Joseph, 32 not out.
Vertil Davis, 2 for 39, and Uroy Farrell, 2 for 62.
At their turn, Police One was dismissed for 79. Noel Jack, 3 for 15, bowling for Spartans. Forced to follow on, Police One fared better, scoring 109. Oneil Thomas led the batting with 49. Micha Joseph took 4 for 18, and Jack, 2 for 24, to lead their team to an innings and 32 runs win.
In the other premier division fixture, Eat Rite Saints took first innings from Irie Travel Packers. Batting first, Packers stalled at 79. Kentish Jacobs bagged 5 for 30, Walford Ambris, 3 for 27, and Kenroy Peters, 2 for 8, bowling for Saints. Peters topscored with 69, as Saints reached 182 for 9 declared. Roneil Jeffery, 4 for 54, Federal Jeffry, 2 for 39, and Orlando Millington, 4 for 44.
When the match was called off, Packers was 112 for 8. Roger Gibson, 4 for 15, and Ambris, 2 for 19, led Saintsâ bowling.
In the Bottlers First Division, Victors Two smashed Smashers by ten wickets.
Victors Two, on the back of Afram Byamâs 104, and Javed Harryâs 63 not out, posted 227. Marvin Harry, 5 for 68, Darren Russell, 2 for 42, bowling for Smashers, who in reply made 126. Ronald Scott hit 52. Harry, 4 for 30, and Joeneil Neil, 4 for 38, bowling for Victors Two. And, batting a second time, Smashers was bowled out for 109, with Deptor Culzac making 34. Kevin Harry, 3 for 30, Javed Harry, 2 for 11, Jeffery Abraham, 2 for 19, and Neil, 2 for 41. Victors Two reached 10 for no loss.
But, Log Masters, already assured of the title, won on first innings over Rudyâs Electrical Unique Warriors. Log Masters made 243 for 6 declared. Peter Campbell, 86, Samuel Williams, 60 and Aaaron Bascombe, 38. Unique Warriors responded with 166. Rodney Lawrence, 106 not out. Montgomery Sealey, 2 for 39.
And, CLICO A Level College got first innings points from Sion Hill. A paltry 36 was Sion Hillâs total, as Lorenzo Edwards captured 5 for 8. Aâ Level College erased the total, reaching 103 for 3, but no play was possible on the second day because of a wet pitch.
