Futures Tennis Academy to launch

Tennis is a game of champions. Futures Tennis Academy (FTA) Coach Deron Grant strongly believes that St. Vincent & the Grenadines has the talent to produce tennis stars, and he and his team are just the ones to do it. With top players such as Fabrice George, Roxanne Russell and Anton Lewis already part of his academy, it is no wonder that his conviction is strong.{{more}}

FTA aims to produce and develop more players of a higher standard of tennis by building a sound foundation and a love of the game. Speaking to SEARCHLIGHT, Grant stated: “Our team is dedicated and passionate about providing all pupils with the ultimate coaching experience.” The FTA caters for both youngsters and adults, but is more geared towards those aged 4 to 18, for whom its coaching programmes are specifically designed. According to their press release, the programmes are “exciting and socially interactive”. Head Coach Deron Grant, who currently works at the Raffles Resort as Assistant Coach & Hitting Professional, is qualified as an International Tennis Federation Coach and Professional Tennis Registry Coach.

Grant is committed to nation building, and appears to be leading by example. For the past 5 years, he has successfully defended his national tennis title, and holds the number one ranking in SVG. In addition to a plethora of other accolades, he is also the current Defending Mixed Doubles Champion of the OECS.

Other members of the team are Camie Matthews, a Fitness & Assistant Coach in the disciplines of Tennis and Volleyball and a certified FIVB Level 1 Coach, and Secretary Janine Rawlins, who is a Trainee Nurse and trained First Aid volunteer.

Coaching commences on Sunday, June 1st, 2008, at 9:30am, at the National Tennis Centre (Villa). Registration will be conducted on location and also by telephone or email. For further information, contact (784) 5335757 or (784) 4952901. Members can be emailed at futurestennisacademy@gmail.com. (JSV)
