An impressive performance by national junior squash team
The national junior squash team returned home Sunday evening after another outstanding performance in the Vita Malt Trinidad Squash Open which took place from March 14 – 16.{{more}}
Kevin Hanaway was the force to reckon with as he cruised through the boys under 15 and under 17 categories. He captured the under 15 title and went under to Caribbean Champion Kale Wilson from Trinidad and Tobago to settle for 2nd position in the under 17.
Demi Ollivierre and Kenneika Alexander were very impressive. Demi outpowered her opponents to capture the girls under 11 plate title and 2nd place in the girls under 13 while Kenneika placed 3rd.
Jason Doyle placed 3rd in the boys under 13 category after a close victory over teamate Storm Halbich in the semi finals, wining 9-5, 10-9.
Amber Glasgow used her power to place 3rd in the girls under 19 category. Kalina Browne fought for every point in the highly competitive girls under 15 and 17, categories placing 4th and 6th respectively. A hamstring injury did not stop Jules Snagg, he placed 4th in the boys under 17 category.
Members from the team were also awarded special prizes. Storm Halbich and Jules Snagg captured the award for being the most helpful, Kenneika Alexander was the most polite and Kevin Hannway was the most outstanding player.
James Bentick , the coach of the team, said that he is very pleased with this performance and will now continue to prepare the team for the OECS championships on the 28th March, in St Lucia.
