The three-week competition, which started on January 15th, was sponsored by Coreas and Hazells Limited and took place at the National Lotteries Authority Sporting Facility at Richmond Hill.

The competition was organized by the students writing the CSEC Physical Education exam in 2008, and coordinated by Samantha Goodluck and Kibaja King.

It was divided into the junior (15 and under) age group and senior (over 15) divisions.

The presentation, which took place at the school’s weekly assembly, saw the winning students being presented trophies and all participants receiving certificates.

In the junior division, Jonathan Perry and Anton Lewis defeated Javal James and Xeno Diaze to take top honours, while Jerard Phils and Dujol Ollivierre lost to Fabrice George and Nicotello Providence.

The Juniors Single was won by Rafai Bentick, who beat Jonathan Perry 6-2, 7-5 in the finals, with Miles Dalrymple placing third.

Local tennis star Fabrice George lost out to Shane Huggins in what appeared to be a one sided 6-1, 6-2 victory, with Dujol Ollivierre taking third place.

On presenting the trophies and certificates at Monday’s ceremony, Coreas and Hazells Inc representative Frankie Young congratulated the athletes for participating in the event, and indicated that his company would be interested in sponsoring future tournaments.(JJ)
