Hope in Prospect of double crown

NEMWIL Hope International will only have the double on their mind when they face Busta Prospect this Sunday afternoon at the Brighton Playing Field in the league final of the National Lotteries Authority South East Football League.{{more}}

Hope, last Monday, secured the Knock Out title, beating Prospect 1-0. It took a first half strike from Daswell Cambridge that beat national goal keeper Dwayne Sandy to earn Hope its first piece of silverware in the 2007 version of that league.

Monday’s match was a postponed fixture, after Sunday’s play was rained out.

When the league was staged three years ago, Hope also copped the Knock Out crown, then sporting its second division unit.

But it will be more than pride and supremacy this Sunday, as Prospect would be thinking otherwise.

An emerging force in local football, Prospect, known over the years for its robust and often intimidating play, would have to contend with a more tactical Hope outfit, intent on thwarting their plans.

It was Prospect that has blemished Hope’s record of appearing in every league final of the Sion Hill Football Competition.

Prospect broke Hope’s run of a possible three straight finals in the Premier Division of the Sion Hill League when they stopped them in the semi finals in 1997. Since, then, Hope has contested every Premier Division final, up to 2005, when the Sion Hill League last held a competition.

Both Prospect and Hope are doing well in the current national club championships.

Hope, though, would be looking to create a piece of local football trivia, that is, to win a competition in every league it has participated in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
