Team SVG loses all matches in FIFA women’s games

Despite not winning a single match in the recently concluded FIFA women’s games in Suriname, local football officials think that Team SVG made a good impression.{{more}}

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Office Manager of the Football Federation and Manager of Team SVG to Suriname, Debra King, told reporters that the other teams were more experienced and better prepared than Team SVG. She said the Vincentian team had to play on Astro Turf (artificial grass), which they are not accustomed to.

King said the Vincentian team, however, received some assistance from the Trinidadians, who trained with our goalkeepers and gave them some pointers.

In Suriname, Team SVG played three matches, with scores of 1-9 against Trinidad, 2-3 against Grenada and 1-10 against the host country. Participation in the Suriname event cost the local federation $51,000.

Assistant Secretary and chair of the women’s committee Alana Mc Master, who recently, along with Major St Clair Leacock, returned from a two-day symposium in Shanghai, China, said that they were encouraged to form partnerships with government, schools and grass-root organizations, and to overcome cultural barriers to develop women’s football.

Leacock, the Federation’s President, said that football in St Vincent and the Grenadines has made many strides throughout the years, but that there needs to be continuity in administration to put it on proper footing.

In response to a question about the Federation owing a St Lucian hotel over $17,000, Leacock responded that the Federation owes money, but it would repay its debts which are just over $400,000 in total. “We owe the hotels, but the hotels make thousands of dollars through football, for the past four years football brought five million dollars into the local economy,” Leacock said.

The Football Federation will hold general elections on 20th October at 10:00 am at the federation’s headquarters at Beachmont.(AC)
