Holding this view is coach of the team Irvin Warrican.

He made this known to SEARCHLIGHT last Tuesday afternoon at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, as the 17-man squad went through its paces.

An expectant Warrican said that he expected the team to do well, especially playing at home.

“We stand a very good chance of bringing the title back to St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” Warrican said.

He based his assessment on the intensity and commitment shown during the training sessions.

“We have been working for the past six weeks, and the guys’ cricket keeps improving; I can’t complain about their attitude”, he added.

Warrican stated that in his opinion, the team is ready physically, and is fit mentally to take on the other teams, St. Lucia, Dominica and Grenada.

“The key to success for us is playing as a team’, Warrican advanced.

He is looking forward to an all round effort from all of the players. Warrican singled out the leadership of Deighton Butler and the input of Orlanzo Jackson as the team motivator to play tough and competitive cricket, as key elements in the team set up.

“Apart from them, once the younger players in the team are given the opportunity to perform, I expect them to do well”, Warrican said.

Satisfied that the team is well served in all departments, Warrican said that execution on the field of play is vital.

“We have to win every hour, every session, every day’s play, and get maximum points from each match”, the West Indies certified coach advised.

The former St. Vincent and the Grenadines captain was wary of the strength of the Grenadians.

“They (Grenada) will be our biggest threat, as they have a good team, filled with youth and experience”, Warrican observed.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines opens its campaign on Monday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field. Thursday, September 27, is a rest day. The tournament resumes on Friday 28, with the host team meeting Grenada at Arnos Vale, and Dominica against St. Lucia at Sion Hill. The last round of matches is scheduled for October 2 to 4, when St. Vincent and the Grenadines meets Dominica at Arnos Vale and St. Lucia plays Grenada at Sion Hill.

The Knock Out competition is set for October 6 and 7, with the first placed from the league format meeting the fourth placed and the second placed taking on the third placed. The winners advance to the final.(RT)
