Olympic football Qualifiers this weekend
When the qualifying round of the Under 23 Olympic Football Tournament kicks off here this weekend, players and officials alike will be tasting the good life, due to sponsorship of this leg of the competition by the St. Vincent Brewery Ltd.{{more}}
According to president of the local Football Federation St. Clair Leacock, the Brewery, through its products Duna Natural Spring Water and Coca Cola, will sponsor the Tournament, which begins on Sunday, September 9th, with host team St. Vincent and the Grenadines coming up against Dominica.
Leacock, who made the announcement at a joint press conference with representatives of the St. Vincent Brewery on Tuesday, indicated that the Brewery had also purchased a number of season tickets valued at $1000 for the competition.
Leacock expressed his thanks to the Brewery and said he hoped to maintain a strong relationship with them.
Marketing Manager of the St. Vincent Brewery Ltd., Wayne Murphy, expressed his commitment to the Federation and the sport of football.
He said that its support goes beyond the Under 23 qualifiers, but also the upcoming club championships.
The Breweryâs products, Duna and Coca Cola, will be used by the teams and officials during the week-long competition, which takes place at the Victoria Park.
This support comes along with that of telecommunications provider Cable & Wireless, which at a previous press conference, announced its sponsorship of the tournament.
Cable & Wireless, through its mobile company bMobile, is currently conducting a trivia competition, where football fans can text answers to questions and win prizes.
Sundayâs opening round game will see St. Lucia coming up against Grenada.
On September 11th, SVG will play St. Lucia, and Grenada, Dominica.
The final day of competition (September 13th) will see SVG taking on Grenada, and Dominica playing St. Lucia.
The winner of this round will advance to another regional round.
In other football sponsorship news, both Cable & Wireless and the St. Vincent Brewery Ltd have indicated that they have also committed support to the National Club Championships which begin on September 15th.
