Bequia records first win in NLA 20/20

Debutantes Bequia recorded their first win in the National Lotteries 20/20 Neil Williams cricket competition last weekend, and there was no better place to do it than in front of their home crowd at the Clive Tannis Playing Field.{{more}}

The home team made 141 for 9 off a reduced allotment of 13 overs, led by Alric Hoyte’s 30 and Jeremy Ollivierre’s 29. Samuel Byam’s 3 for 21, and Samuel Holder, 3 for 24, shared the bowling spoils for Unique Warriors.

At their turn at the crease, the Warriors fell short by 22 runs, 119 for 4 in their 13 overs.

Former national Under-19 player Stein Joseph topscored with 46, Don Bushay, 33, but the other batsmen could not come to terms with the bowling of Raizin Browne 2 for 20, and Glendon Gregg, 2 for 24, who put the brakes on the Warriors’ batting.

And on a weekend when the weather played a major role, Spartans, though, made light work of Saints II, beating them by nine wickets.

Saints scored 80 for 6 off 14 overs, to which Spartans replied with 82 for 1, with 17 balls to spare. The father and son combination of Dawnley Joseph and Dawnley Grant hit 48 not out and 21, respectively, as Spartans ran away with the win.

In another reduced fixture, Police II totalled 98 for 6 off 12 overs. Salvan Browne hit 58. Ithlan Bowens bagged 3 for 17, bowling for North Leeward.

Elmore Alexander then spun a web around the North Leeward batsmen, with a handful of wickets, 5 for 13, as North Leeward folded for 65 off 10.4 overs.

Likewise, ECGC Radcliffe won from Police I by 15 runs. Radcliffe posted 98 in 19.3 overs. Lynden James topped their batting with 48. Malcolm Alexander took 2 for 11, and Renford Jack 2 for 24, bowling for Police I.

The spin twin of Mahlon John 4, for 15, and Dyke Cato, 2 for 13, undermined Police I’s batting, as they fell for 83.

The other outright win in which there was on the field activity saw Rivals defeating Victors II. Rivals made 88 for 7 in 12 overs. Calvert Nickie struck 29, and Roland Wilkinson, 28. Javed Harry was Victors II most successful bowler, with 4 for12. Orlanzo Jackson, 3 for 5, carved out victory for Rivals, as Victors II could only reach 63 for 8 from the quota of 12 overs.

Victors One gained easy points from Sion Hill, as they failed to show up, while Saints and Victors II had to share points in their fixture, abandoned because of a wet pitch.

The other matches set for last Saturday were all abandoned without a ball bowled, as wet pitches and waterlogged outfields negated any possibility of play.
