Foyle to host Island Basketball Camps 2007

Adonal Foyle of Canouan arrives in St. Vincent & the Grenadines tomorrow for the Adonal Foyle Island Basketball Camps 2007 series, scheduled July 30th to August 2nd.{{more}}

Three NBA players and a retired Chicago Bulls/Warriors player will accompany Adonal, along with a staff of 23 health, education and sports professionals, targeting over 1000 children aged 7 to 17 in five venues throughout St. Vincent & the Grenadines. Leon Powe, NBA Rookie from the Boston Celtics, Ike Diogu from the Indiana Pacers and fellow Golden State Warrior Josh Powell are confirmed. Retired veteran Chicago Bull and Golden State Warrior, Clifford Ray is also part of the 2007 summer camp team. The camps are coordinated locally by basketball administrator and businesswoman Sabrina Mitchell, in conjunction with LOC’s in each venue.

Local Corporate companies Karib Cable/Kelcom International, Hairoun Duna Water, Clico Insurance, Aunt Jobe’s Supermarket, Grenadines Airways, Young Island Resorts, Frangipani Hotel and Tamarind Beach Hotel have partnered with Adonal in his efforts, along with US based sponsors American Airlines and Nike. The first camp will take place in Barrouallie at Keartons Monday July 30th, followed by Calliaqua on Tuesday July 31st, Bequia on August 1st, Union Island on August 2nd and the finale in Canouan on August 3rd.

These annual one day camps are designed to provide the kids with a fun and comprehensive experience covering the basic fundamentals of basketball, with in depth instruction in shooting, rebounding, passing and dribbling, while also promoting teamwork, discipline, healthy living and involvement in sports. There will be a special emphasis on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention and the importance of education and reading will be stressed.
