As part of Digicel’s programme of development which supports the company’s sponsorship of West Indies cricket, the Digicel Cricket Coaching Clinics, taking place in Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, Guyana, Antigua and St. Vincent over the next six weeks, is a fantastic opportunity for young, aspiring cricketers to gain some expert tips from the international arena from the top three West Indies cricketers. Joining the Windies trio is past legend, Lance Gibbs, as well as former Windies players, Kenny Benjamin and Keith Arthurton, who act as Head Coaches for the four clinics.

The Digicel Cricket Coaching Clinic will take place in St. Vincent from the 7th – 9th of August at Arnos Vale.

Speaking at the press conference to launch the Digicel Cricket Coaching Clinics, West Indies Captain, Ramnaresh Sarwan, welcomed the initiative adding, “I’m delighted that Digicel has given us this opportunity to coach the Digicel Cricket Coaching Clinics over the next six weeks. It is important for the future that we use all opportunities to nurture young talent in the Caribbean and give back some of what we’ve learnt from being part of the West Indies cricket team.”

“Myself, Chris and Denesh are looking forward to meeting Windies fans as well as getting some tips ourselves from Sir Gary and other former Windies players” added Sarwan.

Kieran Foley, Digicel Head of Sponsorship, commented, “The Digicel Cricket Coaching Clinics are a key part of our youth development programme. We worked closely with the WICB to develop coaching clinics that would teach aspiring young cricketers some valuable cricket skills. It is important that children have access to quality cricket coaching which will maintain the foundations of West Indian cricket as they are the Caribbean’s future cricketers.”

Former great, Lance Gibbs, said, “The Digicel Cricket Coaching clinics are a fantastic development as we look to develop the next generation of cricketers in the West Indies. The traditions we have and the success we’ve enjoyed over the years needs to be maintained, so it’s wonderful to see Digicel listening to the people of the Caribbean and supporting the development of cricket. After this week’s fantastic announcement of the extension to the WICB sponsorship, the clinics are the perfect example of the steps that Digicel has promised to take in further supporting the progression of West Indies cricket”

The Digicel Cricket Coaching Clinics are just one of many ways in which Digicel goes beyond its investment with the WICB to support the growth of the game. As well as sponsoring the West Indies cricket team, Digicel also supported a physcologist and fielding coach to join the team on their Summer tour of England. In addition, the recently launched Digicel Scholarship programme has allowed young Windies player Jerome Tayor the opportunity of playing county cricket for Leicestershire for the rest of the English season.
