Alexander copped a bronze medal in the 400m. Her time was 53.52 seconds, behind American Debbie Dunn who clocked 52.68 and Jamaican Clora Williams second in 53.27 seconds.
Alexanderâs time in the final was markedly slower than her 52.56 clocking in the semi-final. Her 51.35 seconds recorded last year remains a St. Vincent and the Grenadines record in the event.
Shallow flung 52.39 metres in the Menâs Discus to pick up a silver medal. But it was his final throw that brought him his medal after he recorded fouls on his first, third, fourth and fifth throws.
Shallowâs personal best is 58.11m. Finishing ahead of Shallow was Nick Petrucci of the USA. His winning distance was 56.17m.
This country was represented only in track and field at the games. The other members of the team are Raffique Providence, Charmant Ollivierre, and Courtney Bascombe. Pamenos Ballantyne did not make the trip because of a legal matter here.
The team has since moved on to the Pan American Games in Brazil, but will be in action from next Monday July 23. Gideon Labban is the coach and Leroy Llewelyn, the manager.
The St. Vincent and the Grenadines contingent also includes President of the National Olympic Committee Trevor Bailey, Secretary Keith Joseph as well as Wayne Williams an executive member of the NOC. William Anthony is the local media person in Brazil.(RT)
