Marriaqua softball competition getting juicy
Four teams have advanced to the semi final stage of the 2007 Ju-c Marriaqua Softball cricket competition.
Making a bid for the top prize are RSVG Police, Nar Fren Dem, Street Fighters and Nice Radio Pine Hill Clinchers.{{more}}
Police eased past Punishers by five wickets. Punishers made 171 for 7, with Stein Joseph hitting 86 not out. Salvan Browne took 3 for 22. In response Police made 172 for 5, with Dominic Stowe 54.
Policeâs semi final opponent Clinchers scored a one wicket over Cool Guys. Javar Francis led Cool Guysâ total of 113 with 52. Dill Clarke 3 for 6 and Curlan John 2 for 29 were the lead bowlers.
Clinchers scraped home with one wicket in tact. Donwell Hector, straight from the airport to the Richland Park playing field made 18. Noel Carr took 2 for 16 and Emroy David 2 for 13 in losing cause.
But last yearâs champion Street Fighters crushed Zenga by 107 runs. Street Fighters lashed 192 for 6. Ricardo Thomas hit the first century of the season, an even 100. Keith Stephens bagged 3 for 20. Zenga were dismissed for 85. Curtis Dorsette 3 for 31 and Osni Billingy 2 for 11 were the defending championâs top bowler.
Street Fighters play Nar Fren Dem in Sundayâs semi final from 2 pm.
Nar Fren Dem took no prisoners and set aside Wreckers. Nar Fren Dem made 192 for 6, then bowled out Wreckers for 103. Malden Scrubb topscored for Wreckers with 42. Krishna Da Silva 4 for 17 and Kenford Collis 3 for 36 did the demolition job for Nar Fren Dem.
The first semi final takes place this Saturday between Police and Clinchers from 2 pm.
The third place and final are set for Sunday July 22.
