Ballantyne on a roll
Pamenos Ballantyne showed last weekend why he must not be written off as the Caribbean premier long distance athlete.
In the space of four days, Ballantyne was in winnerâs row in three races in three different countries.{{more}}Last Saturday, he ran away with the Heart of Barbados 10K in a time of 34 minutes 07 seconds.
The following day he triumphed in the OECS Sagicor 10K in Grenada. His time in that event was 32 minutes 92 seconds.
Ballantyne then doubled his distance and ran away with the OWTU Bottlers 20K in Trinidad and Tobago last Tuesday morning. His effort saw him clocking 1 hour 9 minutes 17 seconds.
He beat home boy Curtis Cox into second place. Cox finished second in 1 hour 9 minutes 59 seconds, with another Trinidadian Kenrick Williams placing third in 1 hour 11 minutes 55 seconds.
Ballantyne speaking to SEARCHLIGHT last Tuesday said he was feeling good about his recent string of victories.
These follow his outstanding performances in the Hampton and Palo Seco Games held in Trinidad and Tobago last month and earlier this month.
Then he captured the 5000M, the Hampton one mile and the 1500M at the Palo Seco event.
Ballantyne sliced victories between them in the South Heart 5K, the Unit Trust 5K and the Indian Arrival Day 12K.
His next major event is the Caricom 10K set for Barbados July 1.
Ballantyne spends most of his time training in the twin island republic because of lack of facilities here. He is expected to be part of this countryâs contingent to the NACAC Open Games in El Salvador and the PanAm Games in Brazil slated for next month.
