X-Cel Tennis Academy hosts 40, over tennis tournament

X-cel Tennis Academy held its first CGM Insurance Brokers 40 and Over Tennis Tournament for 2007 as part of a series aimed at encouraging mature players to stay fit and active in tennis.{{more}}

Sixteen male players took part in a week long tournament that featured singles and doubles, with the round robin format being used in the former and knockout in the latter. The singles title was won by Kebakjah Jack King, with Andy Bentick as runner up, 6-1, 6-2. The doubles finals, which was keenly contested, saw K. King and Kenny Myers taking the match from the Bascombe twins, John and James, 6-2, 6-3.

At the closing, the President of the SVGTA, Tony Boyea, made brief remarks in which he comended the Academy for conducting the second tournament for the year, and informed those present of two upcoming national tournaments and a course for officials in August, October and June respectively.

Norman Foster of CGM Insurance Brokers indicated that they were happy to support tennis and signalled their willingness to support the development of the sport in any way possible. The Coaches, Samantha Goodluck and Kebakjah King, thanked the National Lottery Board for the use of the Facility and indicated that there were planning to hold a 40 and over open doubles tournament shortly.
