Showing poise and perseverance, the Calliaqua based team out pointed Kingstown Combine at last week Fridayâs final at the New Montrose hard court.
In what was a highly competitive encounter and equally spirited match up of the big men, Calliaqua had to come from behind after leading in the first quarter.
After their 23-18 lead, Calliaqua slipped to a 40-44 trailing at the end of the second, and were behind by two going into the last two as third quarter ended 64-62 in favour of Kingstown Combine.
The final quarter was a different story as Calliaqua finished off their opponents in style. Following the departure of Orlando Fergusson, Kingstownâs big player who was fouled out, Calliaqua took charge to run away with a 93-78 win.
As it turned out the last quarter was a mismatch, as Damion Ottley and Ishama Mc Ree at times show boated with Kingstown dead and buried.
Mc Ree finished with 30 points, while Kingstownâs high man was Bradford Duncan with a game high of 30 points.
Ottley was voted as Calliaquaâs Most Valuable Player, with Daman Ottley securing that title for Kingstown.
Last Fridayâs final was a hang over from the previous weekend after inclement weather halted proceedings last week Monday.
The Bequia All Stars and Mustique Icons were the other teams that participated in the invitational competition, with the former finishing third.
President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Basketball Federation, Wayne Williams at the short presentation ceremony said that he and his executive planned to make the event an annual affair.
He said that immediately following the Carnival celebrations in July, his organisation will stage a âthree on threeâ, competition.
These activities are part of the prelude of the Vinlec National Male Championships set to open August 11.
