National 20/20 Softball Cricket switches off

The final of the National Lotteries 20/20 Softball Cricket Competition bowls off tomorrow night from 9:p.m at the Victoria Park.

Any one of Nice Radio Clinchers, Attackers, Dr. Thomas Injectors, South Rivers, Simple Boys, Street Fighters, Kingstown Hill United and RSVG Police were in the hunt for the two final places for that moment to be truly under the lights.{{more}}

At stake is the top pay out of $3500 to the team that emerges winner.

They were all engaged in quarter final action last Wednesday and Thursday to determine the four to make it to the semi finals slated for tonight.

Wednesday’s quarter-final matches pit Clinchers against Attackers followed by Dr Thomas Injectors against South Rivers.

In Thursday’s fixtures, Simple Boys were carded against Street Fighters and Kingstown Hill United were scheduled to play RSVG Police.

They eight advanced from the round of sixteen played last weekend and completed earlier this week.

Clinchers stopped Fair Hall Falcons’ flight. Clinchers made 6, and then restricted the Falcons to 64 for 6.

Attackers on the other hand disposed of NCB Financiers by 46 runs. Attackers led Marcus Hackshaw’s 36 and Roderick John’s 31 reached 155 for 9. NCB Financiers crawled to 81 for 9.

Dr. Thomas Injectors gained their quarter-final berth at the expense of East Bank. In a rain-interrupted match, Injectors posted 88 for 8, of which Dean Farrell hit 26. Anthony Joseph 2 for 9 and Hollis Davy 2 for 17 shared the bowling honours for East Bank. When heavy showers halted play East Bank were 27 for 8, wrecked by the bowling of Arrie Henry 3 for 6 and Nigel Straugh 2 for 8, thereby giving Injectors a win on a faster scoring rate.

They were expected to have a tough fight from the powerful South Rivers unit. The star-studded team sporting several national cricketers eased past NCB Financiers in the second round. South Rivers notched up 155 for 9. Deighton Butler 51 and Marvin Small 31 led the way in the batting department versus an Ajuba attack that lacked penetration. Lawson Mason though bagged 3 for 20. Ajuba were then bowled out for 79, with Olanzo Jackson taking 3 for 14 and Utran Mc Kenzie 2 for 11.

Simple Boys advanced by beating Derrick Construction by 138 runs. Dexter Haywood 36, Sheldon Nanton 35 and Lex Bute 25 were the architects in Simple Boys total of 163 for 5 made in their 20 overs. Derrick Construction never got out of their foundation and were bowled out for a meager 25. Veron Bute 5 for and Eldon Morris 2 for 11 were the hard to get away for Simple Boys.

Their quarter finals opponent Street Fighters took care of Smashers by a six wicket margin.Smashers scored 47, which Street Fighters erased reaching 48 for 4.

Another team that made it to the quarter final was Kingstown Hill United. They triumphed over Panthers by nine runs.

Kingstown Hill laboured to 58 all out, but managed to bowl out Panthers for 49, led by the bowling of Jamal Ash 3 for 5 and Kareem Peters 2 for 12.

RSVG Police were more clinical in their ousting of Nar Fren Dem. Police replying to Nar Fren Dem’s 87 for 7, made 88 for 2, with Salvan Browne scoring 41, to set up their meeting with Kingstown Hill.

Tomorrow’s final will be preceded by the third place play off.

The presentation ceremony follows immediately after the final.
