An attempt to unseat Sean Stanley as president of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association (SVGTTA) last week failed.

Disgruntled members who called an emergency meeting last Friday failed to get a quorum. Only four persons including a parent of one junior player made up those present at Olympic House.{{more}}

The National Olympic Committee (NOC) was also invited to send a representative, but no one turned up.

The next option is another intervention by the NOC which is being asked to mediate the impasse at the next general meeting.

The impasse was fuelled by the fall out between Stanley and General Secretary Julian Sutherland who have not been seeing eye to eye since their election last April, and have fired accusations at each other publicly.

The NOC last September 25 gave the SVGTTA an October 31 deadline to sort out their internal problems. Matters worsened as Stanley filed a writ against Sutherland. The matter is pending in the law court.

The NOC also requested Stanley to hand over the necessary implements to Sutherland to facilitate his function as secretary which he did last month.

In addition both were ordered to stay clear of the press, a recommendation that went unheeded.

Other members of the executive are First Vice President Khalique Bailey, Treasurer Joseph Carrington and Committee member Kamal Hunte. The other Committee member Unica Velox has since migrated. The other two positions of Assistant Secretary and Public Relations Officer are yet to be filled.

Elections are due in April 2007.
