Local cricketers fail to advance in Stanford 20/20 cricket tourney

St. Vincent and the Grenadines will have to await the next version of the Stanford 20/20 Cricket to win the lucrative top prize. Guyana and Jamaica battle for the third semi-final berth, then Trinidad and Tobago vie for the fourth spot later today.

The winner of the Jamaica/Guyana Match plays Grenada who snuffed out SVG last Wednesday. Nevis established themselves as a dark horse for the title when they took care of Antigua to secure their semi-final berth.{{more}}

Nevis hit the tournament’s highest total as they rattled up 213 for 3 from their 20 overs. Tonito Willett 86 from 44 balls also achieved the tournament’s highest individual total.

Antigua reached 170 for 9 from their 20 overs.

Nevis plays the winner of the Trinidad and Tobago/Barbados clash. The final is carded for August 13.

The Vincentians reached 122 for 7 from their 20 overs, following a blistering start by openers Miles Bascombe 35 and Romel Currency 33.

Grenada was 70 for five at the end of the tenth over when rain forced a premature end to the game. The Duckworth/Lewis system was employed which saw the Grenadians 12 ahead of their requirement.
