Courts Technical College retains netball trophy

Courts St.Vincent Technical College retained the title of Queens of Inter-Collegiate netball last Wednesday defeating the School of Nursing in the final.

Technical College triumphed 33-32, in a hard fought battle that saw the match going into extra time. {{more}}

Cindy Pierre of the School of Nursing gave her team a lifeline, with a last minute goal to tie the match 24-24 in regulation time.

Her efforts crowned off the nurses’ second half resurgence, rebounding from a six-goal deficit, at one point. Technical College had established an early 10-3 lead in the first half, which was whittled away, as the nurses got their act together ending the half with a two goal disadvantage, 12-10.The efforts of the nurses were aided by several turnovers made by the Technical College outfit.

Extra time was a carbon copy of the two previous halves, with Technical College taking the early initiative, but the nurses responded with a late surge.

Pierre missed a crucial shot with seconds remaining.

Technical was able to hang on, to lift the first place trophy for another year.

National Under-23 Goal Attack, Leanna Lewis was the live wire of the Technical attack, scoring 28 from 36 attempts.

The talented Lewis had to dig deep into her mental reserves, overcoming fatigue in the final stages of extra period. Assisting Lewis were Kizzy-Ann Patrick 2 from 2, and Annella Samuel 3 from 7, combined for Technical College.

Pierre scored 21 goals from 38 attempts and Anella Chance 11 from 15,as the School of Nursing had to settle for second.

The St.Vincent and the Grenadines Community College was third.

The other participating teams were The St. Vincent Teachers’ College One and Two.
