Browne writes name in softball history books

Salvan Browne has written his name in black and white. He is the new record holder in the National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Softball Cricket competition.

Browne hit 206 not out, to become the highest individual scorer in the tournament’s 22-year history. He surpassed Jerry John’s 197 on his way to the title. {{more}}

Browne, a former Windward Under-19 wicketkeeper cracked sixteen sixes and fifteen fours to propel Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police to 309 for 3 in 25 overs last Sunday.

Browne shared a 210 run opening stand with Maxian Richardson 59.

They smashed the Smirnoff sugar Corner Giants bowling to all parts of the boundary in their unrelenting stand.

Sugar Corner Giants crashed to 70 all out, as Kem Boyea 4 for 13 and Rolando Wright 3 for 23 sliced through their batting.

Keen followers regard new entrants in the competition, the law officers, as the troublesome eleven of the pack.

Another title hopeful, Novice will have to wait on another fixture to get maximum points. Novice reached 46 for 1, against Dr. Thomas Injectors, when heavy rains ended proceedings at the Dauphine Playing Field. Both teams shared the points in a no decision.

But it was fine weather for

the Kelbourney Bangers/Stingers encounter.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Under-19 middle order batsman Stein Joseph stroked 53, as Bangers compiled 109 for 7 in 23 overs.

In a close tussle for full points, Gairy Construction Stingers fell for 105,with Joseph following up with 2 for 24, supporting Glenroy John’s 3 for 19.

Bangers will be trying to consolidate their position this weekend when they face Rivals from 3:15 p.m., Sunday.

The lone Group C fixture last weekend, saw Computec Irie Travel Fair Hall Falcons folding for 34, wrecked by Kasy Matthews 4 for 8 and Raynon Franklyn 3 for 3.

Nah Fren Dem replied with 35 for 3. Gomea Bombers beat Kingstown Hill United by 50 runs.

Rommel Currency had a fine all round performance, scoring 57 in Bombers’ total of 118. He then grabbed 4 for 22, as Kingstown Hill were dismissed for 68 in 18.2 overs.

Sunday’s action begins at 9 a.m., when HMP Stars play ASCO, with Fountain Rangers playing Cyndale Five Roads from noon.
