Barrouallie grabs major awards at Football give-away

Double winners of the National Inter League /Community Football Competition, Barrouallie grabbed most of the awards in the Hairoun Beer Senior Division and swept all which were up for the taking in the National Properties Under-17 Division.{{more}}

Sweeping the Under-17 category, Nathan Griffith was named the Most Outstanding Goalkeeper and Terry Francis was adjudged the Most Outstanding Defender. Kyle Edwards, apart from copping the Most Goals Award, was that Division’s Most Outstanding Player.

Added to Barrouallie’s shopping cart was Oalex Anderson’s scoop of the Most Outstanding Striker claim.

In the Senior Division, for which Barrouallie also claimed the first prize of a whopping $10,000, Darren Hamlett carried away the Most Outstanding Midfielder and the Most Outstanding Player.

Also grabbing the headlines for Barrouallie was Roy Richards, who was voted the Best Defender in the Senior Division.

Completing the awardees in the Senior Division was Melvin Andrews, who came out of retirement to be Stubbs’ shot stopper. He was the Most Outstanding Goal-Keeper and Myron Samuel of second placed Layou secured both the Most Outstanding Striker and Most Goals titles.

Among the Females, Amolis Marshall of East Kingstown was the Most Outstanding Defender, with the Most Outstanding Goal-Keeper being Travesha Diamond of the Marriaqua. The Most Outstanding Midfielder was Kyana Reece of South Leeward.

The Most Outstanding Striker was Kasilda James of East Kingstown and Janique Browne, also of East Kingstown, hauled in the Most Outstanding Striker award.

In the Dells Apartment Under-13 Division, the Most Valuable Player was Gareth Leigertwood of Layou.

Layou copped the Under-13 title, with Central Kingstown second.

Carlos Sampson of Central Kingstown pouched two awards, the Most Outstanding Midfielder and the Most Goals.

Besides the trophies, all awardees were presented with cash prizes.

Last Monday’s ceremony was attended by several footballers of note of yesteryear, and those present were given a nostalgic journey through a taped interview with Carlton Horne and Vincent Hadaway, two walking encyclopedias of the history of St Vincent and the Grenadines Football.

Also present was the first female elected member of the then Football Association, Shirley Lynch.

The occasion was dogged by a late start, the absence of some of the awardees and glitches in the presentation of the awards.

Absent also were representatives of the various sponsors who were carded to speak, as well as some of the named presenters of the various awards.

However, Minister of Tourism, Sports and Culture Cecil Mc Kie answered the call by the Executive of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation by being present. He delivered remarks on behalf of his ministry. (RT)
