Irish Girl Guides donate sports equipment to SVG

BELFAST, Northern Ireland: On behalf of the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), Dr Christopher Stange of the SVG Consulate in Northern Ireland, received a selection of new cricket and football equipment from the 55th B Belfast Girl Guiding Association and Knockbreda Parish Church.{{more}}

Through the Sainbury’s Voucher for Schools Scheme the Girl Guiding

and Church Goers Association collected vouchers to purchase the equipment for the Islands.

The MACE at Newton Park through the Belfast Telegraph also donated 70 Disney Wonderful World of Knowledge hard copy books on Dinosaurs for Primary School education.

All materials will be shipped back to Kingstown in the coming weeks for disbursement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Through the Consulate of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in Northern Ireland and the recent Hurricane Tomas Appeal several partnerships have been established leading to these donations, as well as, monetary contributions that have been transferred directly through the National Commercial Bank’s Hurricane Fund and the SVG Special Fund through the High Commission for St. Vincent and the Grenadines in London.

The sporting equipment was sourced for the youth aged 14-17 in SVG, as through the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Youth and Sport there is a strong commitment towards Sport and Youth Development with a demand particularly in rural communities.

Dr Stange added: “It is wonderful to engage the voluntary and public sector in Northern Ireland to further develop international relations and the required assistance in areas of sport, education and a healthy lifestyle. The equipment will be used to promote sport to keep youths involved, positively contributing to society and an alternative to anti-social behavior. We are looking forward to developing these links to provide future mutual benefits to SVG and its partners. I would like to take this opportunity to commend the current government administration’s commitment towards education, sport and the wellness revolution.
