Who will seize 2016 Miss Police crown?

After a 15-year hiatus, the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) will once again be staging the Miss Police Queen Show and Calypso Competition.

During a ‘meet the media’ yesterday at the Botanic Gardens, Inspector Trevor Bailey, one of the organizers of the pageant, stated that the show was restarted to bridge the gap between police and the general public.

“Over the years the police have been seen as if our only function is to make arrests and to deal with crime. But within the organization there is talent that is hidden and we see [the show] as a way of bridging the gap between the public and the police,” he stated.{{more}}

He also said that he is hoping to break barriers in the way police and the public interact with each other.

“I am hoping that we will reach out to the wider society and that the public will come out and support the show and listen and observe what the police have to offer.”

Bailey said he is hoping that the pageant will help the contestants with their self-esteem and also expose the hidden talents which they possess.

He indicated that there will also be a calypso segment, where five members of the RSVGPF will perform picong on matters internal to the organization.

The calypsonians are: Sergeant Renwick Cato – the Mighty Bamboo Joint; Corporal Parnell Browne – Master Nine; PC Trevor Grant – The Mighty Stranger; Enkem Richards and Niquette Best.

In her interview with the media, Nadisha Browne, Miss Central, noted that she entered the pageant because she wanted the public to see them as queens and human beings.

“Although we might be stern or firm or rough, sometimes we still have a soft side and we are still unique and ambitious females who will like others to… feel phenomenal about themselves,” she said. Browne stated that on the night of the pageant persons can expect the best from her.

Arianna Snagg, Miss Grenadines, is hoping from the pageant to develop her self-esteem and be able to cooperate more with the public. “I want the public … to think of police differently, not only to be serious and arresting persons, but to be more fun and interactive with each and every one.”

With less than a year in the RSVGPF, Miss Traffic Melissa Davis explained that she entered the pageant for own personal development. She noted that she grabbed the opportunity because she thought it would be the opportunity of a lifetime.

“I just want to encourage other officers to be confident enough to do something for you and be an influence to others,” she stated.

Renelda Solomon, Miss Port, said that after the pageant she is looking forward to being more cooperative with the public. She noted that it was a comment by a sergeant that she looked like a queen that gave her the motivation to enter the pageant.

After being nominated by her sergeant Enrika Akers, Miss Western stated that just putting her best foot forward has brought her this far. She noted that while she was nervous in the beginning, her confidence has since improved.

Kemelia Boyde, Miss CID, views entering the pageant as an opportunity to assist the police force in rekindling their relationship with the public.

“When I heard that the Police Welfare was putting off a police queen show, I looked at it as an opportunity to enter into a beauty pageant, [and] also an opportunity in where I can assist my organization in rekindling the relationship between the public and the police.” She noted that while the training has been hectic and a lot of work, she will be using what she learned during that period to give of her best on the night of the pageant.

With over 10 years experience in the police force, Julianna Paris, Miss Eastern, stated that the preparations have been hectic, having to focus on work and training.

Lisa Baptiste, a former contestant and first runner-up in Miss North Windward, stated that she using her previous pageant experience to her advantage in this pageant.

The winner of Miss Police 2016 will go on to represent the RSVGPF in the British Virgin Islands in a pageant. (CM)
