FORMER PUBLIC RELATIONS Officer Fiona Charles-Williams, a graduate teacher with some 22 years in the teaching profession, was elected unopposed as the new President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Union (SVGTU) during the two-day elections exercise on February 24 and 25, 2026.
Charles-Williams, who teaches at the St. Clair Dacon Secondary School, on her platform, promised to provide sound advice and guidance to the National Executive and effectively represent the SVGTU.
Also unopposed in their positions are Yokanne Blugh, who returned as second Vice President, Treasurer Aurie Gordon and former committee member Reba Crozier-Veira, who is the new Assistant General Secretary.
A release from the SVGTU has listed the other persons who were elected to the union’s executive to serve for the 2026-28 biennium as Owald Robinson, a retired teacher who, after seven collective terms at the helm of the organisation, having served as president on six separate occasions, is the new first Vice President. He ran against Rosmond Richardson of Bishop’s College, Kingstown, for the position.
New to the executive are Andrea Durrant, who was elected as General Secretary; PRO Shanique Bailey; and Committee Members Jevon Bynoe.
Anthony Compton was returned as a committee member.
The new executive will be installed at the Union’s 24th biennial convention which is scheduled to be held in April, 2026.
