World Paediatrics Speech and Language team helps 101 Vincentian children
SOME 101 CHILDREN across St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), benefited from specialized Speech, Language and Occupational Therapy services provided by a World Paediatrics Speech and Language Therapy team that ran from February 1-3, 2026 at the Helping Hands Center, New Montrose.
The visiting team was led by speech therapist Wendi McMillan and included fellow speech therapists Ellen Enright, Bridget Zapolnik, and Sarah Stone-Cunningham, alongside occupational therapist Sarah Love, World Paediatrics (WP) said in a release.
The WP team worked alongside local speech therapist Kimberley Cambridge who is based at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH) to deliver coordinated care to families. The children assessed and provided with services presented with a wide range of developmental needs, including speech and language delays, autism spectrum disorders, behavioural difficulties, and genetic disorders such as Cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.
Throughout the three days, the multidisciplinary team focused not only on direct therapy sessions, but also on empowering parents and caregivers with practical tools and strategies. By emphasizing hands-on guidance and home-based techniques, WP said the clinic aimed to ensure that progress continues after the team’s departure. Sponsorship for the intervention was provided by the Mustique Charitable Foundation.
WP said the Foundation’s dedicated support continues to have a meaningful impact on the lives of the children and families across the country who receive these services.
Following their time in SVG, the team continued the clinic outreach with a visit to Dominica, where they provided similar services to 68 Dominican children.
