CXC relaxes rules and regulations for Jamaica students
The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), is relaxing some of its rules and regulations for students in Jamaica who are still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Melissa which struck the island on October 28, 2025.
This was announced by CXC Registrar, Dr Wayne Wesley during a news conference on Wednesday, January, 7 2026.
In announcing the measures, Dr Wesley said “the Council of CXC has approved an agreed plan of action with the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth and Information in Jamaica.”
The measures relate to Jamaica-based candidates who will be sitting the May/June CSEC and CAPE examinations.
In Jamaica this year, CXC will offer “ the modified approach to those schools negatively affected by the hurricane.”
The Registrar further explained that “modifications and adjustments will be allowed for Jamaica based candidates with respect to School- Based Assessments (SBA’s)”.
Additionally, late registration is being accommodated for candidates from schools which have been negatively affected by the hurricane, and there will be no late fee requirements from these candidates.
CXC has also extended the timeline for submission of SBA’s from schools in Jamaica that were impacted by Hurricane Melissa to June, 15 this year.
Late fee requirements for SBA’s have also been waived.
Candidates in Jamaica who have already registered and paid for their exams, can seek a refund or sit the exams next year, if they feel they are no longer ready to do so this year, the CXC Registrar said in the hybrid news conference on Wednesday.
