Upcoming Cultural Event ‘Hold on to your Roots’
A CULTURAL EVENT ‘Hold onto your Roots’ rolls out at theYoulou Art Centre, Indian Bay tomorrow, Saturday, December 13, 2025.
It is regarded as a timely event given the need to educate the public in light of efforts to upend history and cultural heritage .
“ Cultural events such as ‘Hold On ToYour Roots’ are of great benefit to the community, because they shed light on the past, present and perhaps the future,” a release from theYoulou Arts Foundation states.
The Foundation is collaborating with the SVG Drum Foundation to present this unique cultural event which will highlight the past and hopefully, shed light on the future. Admission is by paid tickets. The evening will include presentations of poetry and a book launch, performances by drummers, alongside an exhibition, and sale of art works and crafts, and other items.
“This truly uncommon event will feature Marisa Edwards who will be showing footage of her father’s work, the late Albert ‘Jus’ Edwards, who was an accountant, a photographer and videographer. Jus Edwards went around the island and captured special events such as a Spiritual Baptist Baptism ceremonies,” and footage of carnival in earlier years.
The book launch will feature Nolan Peters’ book – “A History of St. Vincent and the Grenadines – A Journey Through Resilience and Triumph”.The theme of his book is one of resilience, national pride, and tells of the struggles and challenges of the people of St.Vincent and the Grenadines.
Local poets who will be sharing the stage are Marcella Dublin, Maralyn Balantyne, Zenna Lewis, Jemielle Williams, Slim J, Vaness Francis and Gloria Williams.
Naked Roots and Youremei are two of the drumming groups that wlll be performing during the event.
Visual artists to be featured include Lennoz ‘Dinks’ Johnson, Hannah Archibald, Vaness Francis, Tash Johnson and Camille Musser.
And crafters whose work will be on display are Shennika Simmons, Dawn Bacchus, Ashika George and Vaness Francis.
“The public is invited to come together with an open mind and heart to experience true Vincy culture,” the Foundation states.
