World Paediatrics Physical Therapy makes second visit this year to SVG
A Physical Therapy team from World Paediatrics (WP)were engaged in two days of service provision at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital on October 23 and 24 2025 where they evaluated children with a range of concerns.
A WP release states that 17 Vincentian children with concerns ranging from hemiplegia, brachial plexus, post-surgery rehabilitation, as well as genetic and neurological disorders affecting daily living, mobility and gait were evaluated. Lisa Bebko, paediatric physical therapist, who led the team was joined by Michelle Froede, physical therapist and local physical therapist, Janelle Ballah in the evaluation and intervention clinics.
The WP team, in SVG for the second time this year also held a training session with nine local physical therapists on Serial Casting, a method of treatment that involves a series of casts to gradually lengthen and stretch tight muscles and tendons with the intention of providing a better range of motion. The release explains that this particular technique is beneficial to children with conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, Muscular Dystrophy and children who walk on their toes.
“Being part of this training really opened my eyes to how much impact serial casting can have and the difference it makes for our patients,” one of the local therapists who received training is quoted as saying.
“It was also a valuable experience working along with other skilled physical therapists.”
WP says this engagement highlights their ongoing commitment to providing quality care for Caribbean children as well as developing the skills of local physicians through capacity building initiatives like this.
This team was sponsored by the Mustique Charitable Foundation. World Paediatrics, volunteers and families have extended gratitude for the continuous support of their work.
