Nutrition Unit talk Healthy Eating on Caribbean Nutrition Day
Caribbean Nutrition Day was observed across the region on Sunday, June, 1, 2025, and the Nutrition Unit within the Ministry of Health,Wellness and the Environment held a symposium under the theme “Savour the Flavour, Eat Right, Live Bright”.
The activity was held at the conference room of the Seventh Day Adventist Mission at Old Montrose.
In a release, the Nutrition Unit said students and teachers from various schools, including the St Vincent Girls’ High School, the Buccament Bay Secondary School, West St.George and Barrouallie Secondary Schools attended the symposium.
It was aimed at helping to promote healthy eating habits among youth and to allow them to gain insight into healthy cooking methods and practices which they can utilize.
Community Dietician at the Ministry of Health, Melodie Hercules, urged those present to reflect on their current eating habits and make some changes by accepting proper nutrition and healthier lifestyle practices.
Retired senior nutritionist, Joyce Burgin, used the opportunity to provide advice about meal preparation, informing attendees that in order to get maximum nutrition from certain foods, boiling, steaming and baking healthier in preserving vital nutrients which the body needs. (API)
