Traffic issues needing immediate attention
EDITOR: As we begin the new year there are some traffic issues which I recommend be dealt with swiftly. At Paul’s Lot in front of Fly tyre shop some urgent attention is needed.
On any given day vehicles are parked on both sides of the road. This road we know is a two way street.
So, can we imagine the difficulties encountered on a daily basis with two vehicles trying to pass in the one lane. I recommend that either vehicles are allowed to park only one side and also for comfort and easy flow of traffic that it can a one lane.
Middle street from the side of Jax right up to Heritage Square is another situation that needs urgent attention. We are aware that Middle Street is the busiest street in Kingstown and that there are vendors on both sides of the road, yet traffic is allowed along those roads. How critical this situation can be when vehicles are trying to drive along that road and with the limited space available, both vehicles are pedestrians many times are trying to use it the same time.
This can be chaotic and can lead to injury to vendors’ stalls and also vehicles and persons.
I have on several occasions written about vehicles parked along the road side.
This continues to be a problem and it is getting more serious a problem with the increase of vehicles. In many communities there are vehicles parked along the road. This minimizes the space available for traffic, which is suppose to be a two way street but has been reduced to a one lane in which two vehicles are expected to pass. We know that is not possible.
This can be chaotic and does not allow for a comfortable flow of traffic.
I know that accidents have occurred as a result of vehicles parked by the side of the road, and vehicles parked on both sides of the road where two vehicles were trying to pass.
So, I am calling on the traffic department along with the Ministry of Transport and Works to deal with these issues in a swift way.
