The Feast of Trumpets
“FOR YAHSHUA HIMSELF shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of Yahweh: and the dead in the Messiah shall rise first”, 1 Thessalonians 4:16.
The ‘trumpet ofYahweh’ is mentioned several times in the sacred scriptures.
What does the sound of this trumpet mean?
The first day of the seventh scriptural month is fast approaching. This special day, known as “The Feast of Trumpets”, is an annual day of rest and worship commanded by our heavenly father,Yahweh.
It is also described as “a memorial of the blowing of trumpets” in Leviticus 23:24. If we are commanded to remember the blowing of trumpets, we must understand the significance ofYahweh’s trumpet sound in the scriptures.
The Calling of an Assembly Numbers chapter 10 shows how the Israelites used trumpets while travelling through the wilderness. One of the functions of the trumpet was to call together an assembly of people.
This can be seen in verse 3 of this chapter. This is also evident in Joel 2:1516, where the trumpet is used to call people together to repent and pray before Yahweh. Today, in the Assemblies ofYahweh, the trumpet sound is used as a signal for all brethren and sisters to come together and prepare for worship on the annual High Holy days.
The Day of Yahweh
In Exodus 19, Almighty Yahweh told Moses that He would come down upon Mount Sinai to speak to the congregation of Israel. The Israelites were commanded to prepare for this day, to ensure that they were in a sanctified, acceptable state to meet with their Creator.
In verses 16 19, asYahweh descended on the mount with fire, what did the people hear?
They heard the ‘voice of the trumpet’ growing louder and louder, as an earthquake began and smoke ascended to the sky.
From this passage, we can see that the trumpet heralds Yahweh’s presence with His people. It serves as a signal beforeYahweh speaks. This can also be seen in Joel 2:1, where it says, “Blow the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain; let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day ofYahweh comes, for it is near at hand”. The Day ofYahweh represents a day when He will begin to speak to mankind in a language they will understand.
It is described as a dark and gloomy day, a day when Yahweh calls for the people of the world to repent and return to Him with all their hearts.
However, the day of Yahweh will end with His faithful people being released from the bondage of sin and entering the promised kingdom [Jeremiah 30].
Just as the Israelites prepared for the day ofYahweh’s coming at Mount Sinai, we must also prepare for the great Day of Yahweh.
The Time of Yahshua’s Return The trumpets in the Bible signify a call to action and a signal to be alert.
The Feast of Trumpets is a time when the people of Yahweh are reminded to prepare for the Kingdom ofYahweh. There are seven trumpets mentioned in Revelation, and the seventh trumpet signals the coming of the Kingdom [Revelation 11:14-18]. This can also be seen in the opening scripture. When Yahshua the Messiah descends from heaven with the clouds and the sound of the trumpet, his faithful followers will be changed to spirit beings.
They shall be ‘caught up in the clouds, to meetYahshua in the air’, 1 Thessalonians 4:17. In Matthew 24:30-31, this trumpet is termed as “the great trumpet”.
Final Thoughts
During the Feast of Trumpets, we are instructed to reflect and think carefully about the meaning of the trumpet in the scriptures. How can it apply to your life? We have seen that the trumpet was used to call togetherYahweh’s people for worship. Moreover, we have seen that the trumpet serves as a signal beforeYahweh speaks, reminding us that we must prepare for the Day ofYahweh. Furthermore, ‘the great trumpet’ will sound whenYahshua the Messiah returns to set up his kingdom on earth.
There are other uses of the trumpet described in the Bible, such as to signal war, to signal the coronation of a king, and to signify a time to move out or journey. Of course, these other uses of the trumpet can also apply to our spiritual life.
The Feast of Trumpets is a day full of hope and foresight. This year, the Feast of Trumpets falls on September 24th. Services will be held at our worship place at Cedars.
“And Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly, both men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month…Then he said to them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Sovereign: neither be you grieved; for the joy ofYahweh is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:2, 10.
