Three stalwarts – Browne, Mckie, Barker
EDITOR: There can be little doubt that the constituency of West St George has experienced an upward trajectory of growth and development over the past three decades. This reality is borne out and evident across all sectors thereby passing the litmus test as one the faster advancing constituencies.
Agricultural produce continues to flow from the upper area of the constituency, infrastructure was upgraded and new commissioned the population continues to expand. Across all of the communities, education remains ideal with the establishment of the largest and most costly secondary school, as well as being home to two medical colleges. Sports and cultural events are hosted with regularity and at the highest level, robust commercial activity is visible throughout the constituency and most recently, health care has taken centre stage.
Last Saturday evening persons in the constituency through the West St George Constituency Council recognised the contribution of the three stalwarts for providing leadership more broadly and specifically through the council, in the growth and development over this three decade period.
Former Parliamentary Representatives Mike Browne (1994- 2010) and Cecil Mckie (2010-2020) were honoured for their total dedication to this development prior to during and after their political sojourn. Patricia Barker was honoured for her total dedication to administrative work and tiling in the vineyard to ensure development remained central, particularly for women and, by extension, all residents.
Honorees Barker and Mckie were on hand at the West St George Secondary School to receive their recognition plaques, while Browne (mourning his sister’s passing) assigned Ettie Rowers to accept his plaque.
