The Cumberland by-pass road

EDITOR: The by-pass road just before reaching Cumberland on the way down from Town, which is being used since the collapse of the road from Charles Village heading to Cumberland, overlooking the Power Plant needs some attention.

I know it is a temporary road and is currently used since the main road, as mentioned above, is not useable.

We have heard that monies are available to do the road that had collapsed and that it is out for tendering.

However, we know how it goes, the commencement of this project could take a while and may not in reality start this year. However, if it starts this year that will be good. But we know that it will take a while to complete. Hence, the importance of this by- pass road can not be overstated.

Even when the main road is completed it will be nice to have this by-pass road maintained and keep [it] in good condition in the case of emergency and can also be used by motorists who wish to operate on that road.
But for now, it is the road that all motorists are using and will be for sometime. So, it is important that it be maintained and in a
good condition. As it stands at the moment, there are far too many pot holes that are increasing in numbers and in depth. The potholes are becoming uncomfortable since it is becoming deeper and deeper and with the amount increasing.

To make it a bit more comfortable for the moment, some red dirt can be deposited in the holes. I know I am not an engineer, but this is a simple and cheap recommendation. I believe there might be plans to do some work on the road, but while we wait, please make life a bit easier.

After all, it would not take much, and besides BRAGSA vehicle and workers traverse this road daily. So, let some consideration be offered. Come to think of it, ambulances when transporting a sick person cannot slow down in the hole and so can you imagine what an effect it can have on a sick person and even worse, a pregnant lady travelling on that road while trying to hustle to reach hospital to deliver a baby. There is a possibility of she losing that child. I hope that sooner rather than later, attention will be given to that road and some care and love for each other be given.
