Credit to the police on crime fighting efforts
EDITOR: The Police Crime Unit and Special Service Unit must be complimented for their effort in fighting crimes.
Their latest seizure of guns and ammunition is indeed worthy of praise, along with the assistance of civilians. Indeed fighting crimes is everyone’s responsibility.
We know as Vincentians we seldom compliment, but like to criticize and find fault. To these policemen and women, keep it up and continue to work hard. We, are truly appreciative of your effort.
The Traffic branch also needs to be praised for their continued effort in ensuring we, as drivers keep within the law and that there be a reduction in breaking the law.
However, there is a situation that needs to be addressed and that is, those vehicles which operate on the road and smoke heavily. It is very dangerous health-wise for persons travelling in vehicles behind those vehicles that throw out plenty black smoke. It not only affects health where it can cause breathing problems to those who are unfortunate to be travelling behind those smoking vehicles, but it can affect the driver, in the sense that it becomes difficult to see and so the vision can be affected, which can result in accidents.
I, therefore, urge the vehicle owners to service their vehicles on time, especially the diesel vehicles, and also that the traffic department look out for those vehicles and give them a warning and a time to have their vehicles rectified. Failure to do should result in some penalties.
After all, we ought to exercise some care and concern for others. It should be our duty as drivers to ensure that passengers are as comfortable as possible and arrived safely.
Also, it will be nice to have some education on these matters by the police on their programmes and police update on one of the mornings.
Finally, it would be nice to know if just buying a vehicle and putting on ‘TAXI’ makes it legal to operate as a TAXI and charge TAXI fare. We know it is a common practice now for many vans of different sizes and capacity to operate as a TAXI and charge TAXI price by just simply put on the sign TAXI on it.
I trust these aforementioned issues would be dealt with in a reasonable time.
