Stand up and you will be seen; sit down and you will be looked over

Editor: They put a normal person in a mental institution because she used foul language. That is a mockery of the judicial system and maybe politically tainted. What is the meritocracy of institutionalizing a citizen without due process (habeas corpus) for such a long period of time? This is an abuse of power, to say the least; moreover, the alleged charge does not constitute a “breach of the peace” in its true definition.

Clearly, wrong was done to this young woman and yet she has suffered wrong by the judicial system. They all failed miserably to protect her when she needed them the most.

Crime and punishment is never equitable; that is why there are jurors to strike a balance. I have known St Vincent to be an island of laws in its infancy of governance. Alas, I am seeing fissures in every facet of the institution. Therefore, we should give a damn when the system that is there to protect us is causing injury to its people. Stand up and you will be seen; sit down and you will be looked over.
