The Lord’s harvest is near!
Editor,
The rise in crimes is not anything new. Ask the prophet Habakkuk in the book of Habakkuk chapter 1 and Noah, as found in the book of Genesis 3. In both cases, neither the prophet nor Noah had failed, but rather God was about to judge the people. Thus, the Lord is about to judge the nations of the world.
The crimes are a reflection of the poor discipline and guidance of the home. There is more emphasis on material things and rights, than there is on spiritual things and living for the Lord. It shows a lack of value for mankind.
However, we should not be alarmed, for the Bible tells us in Jeremiah 17:9 that the heart of man is deceitful and desperately wicked. Added to that, it is a sign of the last days in which we live, as supported by 2 Timothy 3: 1 â 3, In brief, we have put Christ on the back burner of our lives, rather having him first in our lives.
Technology and music are contributors to crimes. Our young people are bombarded with songs that speak of violence and the easy access to porn sites or movies of a violent nature using technology are amongst some of the causes. We no longer have parents sitting down at home and communicating with children. Instead the cell phones and other technological instruments are their major communicator and influence.
The Church has been playing its part and continues to play its part with the propagation of the gospel. I will admit that we are living in an age of apostasy, with the departure from the truth of Godâs word, as mentioned in 1 Timothy 4. However, it cannot be said that the Church has not been reaching out to the populace with the gospel and with prayers.
What is recommended is that there be more focussed prayer for this nation by the Church and a more personal outreach on practical issues. There are so many troubled young people who need personal help and guidance. Thus, here is where the Church can be more active as leaders, in having programmes to help the family and to reach our young people.
Yes, there needs to be more patrol by police officers, but criminals monitor the movements of the police and so they would not be able to control the crimes. I recommend that there be surveillance cameras set up at different points across this nation. This can be a very expensive investment, but it is worthwhile. We know that it would not solve the crime situation, but it will aid in arresting the criminals and will aid in reducing the crimes, since they would know that they would be caught.
Let us, as a people, work together to help in the reduction of crimes. Let us turn to God and let us continue to pray harder. Of course, there is more to be said about this topic. May God grant peace and comfort to those bereaved families. God bless SVG.
