A tribute to a great father
EDITOR: Sunday will be observed as Fatherâs Day. Despite the negatives that are said about men and fathers in particular, on this Fatherâs Day, I pay special tribute in memory of one of the greatest fathers â my beloved father.
July this year would mark 11 years since he was promoted to glory. Using the acoustic of FATHER, I will attempt to describe him. F â Faithful and Forgiving. Despite the many temptations, my father never yielded to temptations from the opposite sex and remained faithful until death. He also was hurt by many, including politicians; yet he always forgave. A â Adorable and Amicable. T â Tender and Trustworthy. In this day and age it is hard to find many persons who are trustworthy. HâHumble and Honest. Never can it be said that my father was boastful and proud.
Although he was poor, he never chose to be dishonest, but worked hard and in all aspects tried his best to be honest and remain humble.
E represents Eternal peace and hope and Energetic. I can recall my father walking every Sunday from Rose Bank up the hill to Troumaca for church. Despite his age, he always found the strength to serve his Lord and master and go to the mountain as a farmer. My father surrendered his life to the Lord Jesus and lived his life for God since he had that eternal peace and hope.
Finally, R â Reliable, Respectful, Righteous and a Role model. As a result, I know that he is at rest with his Saviour. He did not have much to give to us, but he was our role model. His faith and love for his master was admirable. I am certain he was proud to have his sons become preachers, something he never achieved in his life. One day we will meet our great father in HEAVEN.
Editor, a person does not have to be educated academically, or have money to be a good father and a good role model. So, on this Fatherâs Day, I take this opportunity to briefly pay this simple tribute to a man who has touched the lives of so many of us. Someone who has left a legacy that is hard to emulate. I wish he was here to join us once again on this special day.
