Please give attention to neglected roads

Editor: Roads are very important to the development of any country and they also assist with transportation by making it comfortable.

To begin with, for years, the corner before you reach Russell’s business at the entrance to Keartons when you are travelling from North Leeward to Kingstown needs some attention. That corner is always full of sand; thus vehicles have to divert to the other lanes to avoid the quantity of sand in the corner. I would be grateful and so would all the drivers that traverse that route for something to be done in terms of having the dirt removed and a solution found.{{more}}

For years now the village roads at Calder have been neglected. Sometime last year, a little work was done to fill the holes, but it stopped. That piece of road from the clinic at Calder right down to the junction at Mt Pleasant is very bad. The road at Pompset is also in dire need of attention. Can you imagine travelling on these roads daily with so many potholes? This can be very frustrating and also damaging to the vehicles.

The residents of Calder are independent and ambitious people. They hardly look to Govern-ment for anything. Thus, it is my opinion that they are taken for granted, since they are one of the many villages that are loyal supporters of the ruling ULP government. So, fixing these roads is not too much to do for these lovely people.

Come to think of it, this village is overlooking the Argyle International Airport. Soon lands will be bought by many persons to erect houses and who knows, apartments, because of its proximity to the AIA. The state of the road can be discouraging to persons who may want to invest in that community.

After all, that community has many prominent persons living there and many have come out from that community. Amongst them are lawyers, a magistrate, doctors, teachers and almost every type of profession.

We know that money is hard to come by, but please give some attention to those roads. It has been a long time now that they have been neglected. I am sure the road users would be grateful and be appreciative of the effort in repairing the roads. Thanks for your kind consideration and co-operation.
