Are we becoming heartless as a nation?

The Editor: Proverbs 14:34 states:

“Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people.” The recent frequency of murder, including the killing of the police officer while on duty, is indeed cause for great concern.

I wonder how heartless we have become as a nation. Can it be truly said that we don’t practise righteousness? Or is it just the few heartless individuals who are giving this country a bad name? Whatever views we take, it shows us that the hearts of men are desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9).{{more}}

Our children, brothers, fathers, uncles etc may leave home, but we are not sure we are going to see them again. They may never return to us alive. It is therefore important that we don’t take our loved ones for granted. But rather let us love them and let them know that when they leave home. Let us appreciate them and show them as much love as possible. Most importantly, let us pray for our loved ones as they leave home and also for this nation.

Stiff penalties must be administered to these criminals. I trust that the police would be able to have enough evidence to convict these men. The sad thing is that many mothers, rather than rebuking their sons in wrong things at an early age, seem to defend them. It is even believed that some mothers work “iniquity” to get their sons free. Indeed, if that is so, how sad.

I call upon us as a nation to turn to God and pray often. For, as the Bible says in Psalms 9: 17, the wicked shall be turned into hell, all the nations that forget God. May God grant peace in this nation and may the senseless killing be cease. God bless SVG.
