Potential for increase of minimum wage

Editor: The National Wages Council is to look into increasing minimum wages. If property and business taxes, licence fees, duties and customs costs have all risen, as recently announced by the ULP Government, how can employers afford any increase in wages?{{more}} Costs go up for the working man and costs go up for the employer— where is the profit from which the employer is to pay the worker?

And by the way, as much fuss as the Government expended on the seaweed problem here, did we have a delegate at the OECS conference that was held in the BVI, just concluded in March, that tackled the problem and offered solutions? Or is it more important to point out why things are bad here, as another excuse as to why we are poor, than to engage with our neighbours in solving the problem?
