Moved to tears
I also know that Sylvia is an emotionally strong and very dignified individual who can handle criticism. To this day, no one can say that they heard her hurling back insults at anyone.
But having read her daughterâs letter in the Searchlight newspaper of last weekend of the harassment faced daily, I was moved to tears. I had not realized the magnitude of her torment. SHE IS HUMAN.
Why is Mr Arnhim Eustace allowing his mob to terrorize the supervisor of elections like this? People who know absolutely nothing about this outstanding lady are tarnishing her character. How would you feel, Sir, if this was happening to the women in your life?
Ms Sylvia Findlay, her siblings and her children had decent upbringings. No one can dispute this. They were never street rats, roaming the streets at nights. They were brought up in church and remained there. I patterned my sonsâ upbringing by the way I saw Sylvia raise her daughters. Her shoes are much too big for many who are calling her names.
I note on the protest line last week Mr Eustaceâs card read “Democracy Fighting for its life in SVGâ. With all due respect, Sir, democracy is not one-sided. In order for democracy to be effective, one must also feel safe. Do you think the supervisor of elections feels safe going to her workplace, when your unruly supporters are hurling insults and threats at her daily? Please do not swear for them â you are seldom there. What has happened to your âkinder, gentler societyâ idea? While I am at it, who is the leader of this protest or the NDP, for that matter? It is time for you to take charge. It appears you have become a credulous rather than a credible leader. One thing I know of my friend is that she is not easily fooled, as she makes checks to ensure that what is being told to her are the facts.
I join with Mrs Faylene King in thanking Mr Parnel Campbell QC for his programme The Law and You,â which he dedicated to the supervisor of elections. I was not at all surprised at all, since Mr Campbell is not aloof from the people of the community in which he grew up. He knows who his relatives and friends are. He has helped in the education of some. I am so proud of you, my country man.
I also read with interest Dr Adrian Fraserâs article in the Searchlight newspaper entitled “Here I standâ. Thanks for acknowledging you were brought up in Barrouallie; but it seems you have adopted this motto “down with principles, I am sticking to my party.â For all worth, Sir, stop hiding behind your pen and stand up and be counted with Mr Parnel Campbell QC.
Ms Sylvia Findlay will prevail.
