Let good sense prevail; let’s have safety on our roads!
The coverings have been placed over the drain so that when it is time to clean the drain they can be removed and returned after cleaning is completed. With these coverings taken off and the holes left exposed, it poses a traffic problem. Many times at those spots two vehicles cannot comfortably pass. The vehicle heading towards town has to divert away from that area and so takes more space in the road. If the holes are covered over the drain, then two vehicles can pass comfortably.
If by lack of good observation, a vehicle proceeds straight ahead trying to keep on his hand in order to allow the passage of both vehicles, then the vehicle that is heading towards town will most likely end up having one of its wheels in the hole. This can cause damage to the vehicle.
On the other hand, if the driver travelling toward town decides, for safety of his vehicle, to swerve a bit from the hole, it would likely cause an accident if both vehicles try to pass at the same time. Thankfully, so far the drivers have exercised good control and stop above the open holes to allow other vehicles to pass freely. However, the question is, “how long will it take before those holes are covered?â Is it after an accident has occurred or a vehicle is damaged because the wheel ends up in the hole?
I am therefore calling on those responsible to see that these holes are always covered. By doing so, it provides for an easier flow of traffic to and from Kingstown, thus minimizing the possibility of an accident or damage to a personâs vehicle. May good sense prevail and letâs have safety on the roads. Thank you.
