In the valley of decision

Editor: Fellow Vincentians, we have been blessed with a government which have been on the proving ground for 14 years. I was told by a former politician that the constitution which currently binds (which could have been changed in the referendum) has given so much power to the party in power that they can go to Parliament and change a man into a woman. ‘The ayes have it.’{{more}}

Under the ULP Government, we still enjoy freedom of speech, religion and otherwise that there seems to be no problem in violating any of these. Let me give an example. You have the Speaker of the House of Assembly being threatened by the representative for West Kingstown and getting away with it. This is the same man who stoned a church, claimed that he would do it again and still got away with it. Well, until the voters in West Kingstown ‘get rid of him’, there are many more.

I would challenge anyone reading this article to give me one reason why you should vote NDP. If your reason is that we need a change, the following questions require an answer straight from the conscience:

1. Do you expect the NDP candidates to change their attitude if they are elected to office – I fear not.

2. Are you looking forward to meaningful programmes? You would be disappointed. Check their manifesto.

3. Do you really think that putting the NDP in office would see a cessation of bad manism as displayed by them now? – I venture to say no .

4. Have you really settled the question in your mind as to whether the NDP will continue the people-friendly, people-oriented programmes of the ULP, especially the Argyle International Airport? ‘Way they go get the money from?’

5. With the animosity that the NDP have publicly expressed against friendly nations, what sort of support would they get? What sort of foreign policy outlook would they have – NONE.

How many times must I repeat that what the NDP government under the leadership of the flamboyant Sir James Mitchell and fiscal adviser Arnhim Eustace failed to accomplished in 17 years, the ULP achieved them in five years. This is common knowledge to the supporters of both parties.

The question which should haunt every Vincentian is – WHAT IF THE NDP HAD FORMED GOVERNMENT IN 2001, WHAT WOULD SVG BE LIKE TODAY SOCIALLY, ECONOMICALLY, EDUCATIONALLY AND OTHERWISE? Their track record would help to answer this question.

In closing, let me remind ALL voters that the NDP was in government before the economic downturn and when banana money was plentiful. Their failure to accomplish in the years of plenty is sufficient evidence that they are NOT FIT TO GOVERN in this hard guava time. Now that they have ditched Sir James or rather now that Sir James has ditched them, the only thing that would happen to us is that we would end up in a ditch if we vote them.

TOMORROW is the DAY OF DECISION, the world is looking at us. VOTE WISELY, VOTE FOR THE STAR.

NB – Despite the onslaught from ‘NICE ‘ radio and the turncoats, the non-entrepreneur of the year and Stalkey, a question for Stalkey: ‘Have you now jumped onto the band wagon because you too claim that it is time for SVG to have a black Prime Minister?’ And to Ken, why did they resurrect you from the political graveyard? To try to regain some of your money? Never happen.

Vote LABOUR. VOTE ULP.
