Elevating oneâs self to a higher level of international visibility only focuses attention more sharply on the ground, to failures here at home.
At least Hitler made highways and Mussolini made the trains run on time. What can be said about our El Commandante here? Potholes, obscene music on the buses (which run on whatever schedule seems most profitable), housing that collapses or is promised, but not completed, government facilities that are closed or sold because of admitted inability to maintain, etc.
All hail our internationally renowned Comrade! Once the washed-away road in front of my house is repaired, I might even be able to get to town to buy some basic provisions that have just gone up in price (although my pay hasnât).
