Is real freedom of the press being destroyed?
Fri, Jul 11, 2014
Editor: I personally believe that freedom of the press has, or is, being destroyed by the current ULP administration in many ways. I will give you just seven.
1. One of the top regime members hires people to go on the Internet and spread untrue stories, at the same time denying the truth that anyone should dare to write about the ULP or any of its members.{{more}} There is a complete machinery in place that suppresses or attempts to suppress the truth. If itâs true, isnât that a scientific socialist attack on the freedom of press and process?
2. It is alleged that many of the letters to the press and Internet media come from just one of our top regime members, written in other peoples names. If itâs true, isnât that a scientific socialist attack on the freedom of press and process? Is the media being supplied with false and people damaging information? Is that what is happening? If itâs true, isnât that a scientific socialist attack on the freedom of press and process?
3. Journalists have been treated so badly in ULP interviews that they are frightened to ask pertinent questions. They are in many cases terrified to face the onslaught and the belittlement meted out to them publicly. They are made to feel and look unpatriotic.
If itâs true, isnât that a scientific socialist attack on the freedom of press and process?
4. Newspapers are frightened to ask and frightened to print, least they lose government advertising. If itâs true, isnât that a scientific socialist attack on the freedom of press and process?
5. It appears to me, only one person speaks for everyone in the Government, everybody, every department; no one is allowed to give press interviews except one man. Even those chosen few who are allowed to speak, I believe the one man writes their speeches for them. All those alleged actions are in themselves a reverse and perverse process that limits the information that the press can obtain. If itâs true, isnât that a scientific socialist attack on the freedom of press and process?
6. Is it not so that all Vincentian media is frightened of being sued by a powerful ULP political advocate. I believe he is a relentless and prolific litigant, using his specialist skills and threats of proceedings to gag the media. Isnât that something like a professional boxer using a baby as a punch bag? If itâs true, isnât that a scientific socialist attack on the freedom of press and process?
7. Journalists are taken on trips abroad where they are supposedly carried to cover government events, when in fact they are being given the carrot and stick treatment. Be a good boy and we will take you on our âjolly upsâ. Fail to toe the line and you can sit in the cupboard, no information and no stories, even if they are false stories and information.
If itâs true, isnât that a scientific socialist attack on the freedom of press and process?
The usual thing for these Marxist ALBA regimes is to have totalitarian control over all media. In the case of SVG, I suspect the ULP regime currently feels there is no need to further control the press, because as far as the regime is concerned, they are already under total control. And in some cases running frightened, very frightened.
Thank goodness we rejected the âNew Constitutionâ, otherwise you can be pretty sure our press would of been nationalised and every word spoken or written, vetted and controlled. We may have well seen journalists languishing in prison by now. We have evidence of these processes and behaviours against the press by and from our ALBA partners, Venezuela and Cuba, which I am sure is normal Marxist behaviour, but should be unacceptable to decent people living in what little is left of our democracy in SVG.
[Scientific socialism is the term used by Friedrich Engels to describe the social-political-economic theory first pioneered by Karl Marx. The purported reason why this socialism is âscientific socialismâ (as opposed to âutopian socialismâ) is because its theories are held to an empirical standard, observations are essential to its development, and these can result in changes and/or falsification of elements of the theory. {communism}]
